"The
object and purpose of the Amherst Garden Club
Membership is open to anyone interested in the objectives of the Amherst Garden Club. Annually, each member should serve at least once on a hospitality committee, help out on civic projects and participate in fund raising activities. As a new member you will find that you are a part of an active, friendly group who share a common interest in gardening. New members may join the Amherst Garden Club at any time during the year by contacting Membership and paying the $26.00 dues for new members or $20.00 for renewing members. Dues are typically paid annually in April and May (for the following year), so as to give time to pull together the club yearbook for distribution at Octobers meeting. A renewal form will be mailed in the April newsletter, The GrapeVine, to each garden club member. New Members may join by attending a meeting and paying the membership fee. The roots of our club go back to 1970 when twelve ladies gathered in response to an advertisment in the Milford Cabinet about forming a garden club in Amherst. Our first annual meeting was held May 1971 with 35 members attending and we were incorporated in 1973. Today as we head into a new millennium, our club has blossomed. We welcome you and hope you'll enjoy our group as much as we do. The Amherst Garden Club meets the first Thursday of each month, September through June ( we are all too busy in our gardens to meet in July & August!!) in the Congregational Church on the Amherst Common, with the exception of December and June when we have a luncheon meeting at an area restaurant. The meetings begin with a 9:00 am social time to follow at 9:30 with the monthly meeting and program. Members receive an updated "yearbook" each year with a list of our membership, by-laws, club officers and committee/project chairmen, budget, monthly programs and the monthly hospitality committee. As a new member you will want to familiarize yourself with its contents. Members will also receive the Newsletter of the Amherst Garden Club, The GrapeVine. The newsletter fills you in on all the club activities and you won't want to miss the Horticultural Hints!! As an Amherst Gardener, you have the opportunity to participate in many activities and events . Check the appropriate link at top of page for easy access to info on activities listed below. |
